angels + magnolias

i have continued my delving into this lynchian hyunjin fanfic project.
today i wanted to explore some of the poetry that hyunjin has read since my idea for the upcoming scene was that he was going to return to his house and read some poetry before bed.

and i found a few concrete poems, but not many. and it was shockingly hard to find. i thought with an idol so popular, these works would be easier to identify and locate.

let's start with the one that was the most challenging and therefore the most rewarding.

From this book
지구만큼 슬펐다고 한다 (“It Is Said It Was as Sad as the Earth”)
by 신철규 (Shin Cheol-gyu)

now, the poem that Hyunjin quotes in a vlog is 다족의 천사 (“Angel with Many Feet”)

and i think i found at least an except of this on somebody's instagram caption:

Water cannons chase and strike protesters relentlessly.
Someone climbing onto a police bus falls.

A crushed insect writhes.

Just because something is in a high place doesn’t mean it’s an angel.

Wingless angels drag their damp bodies into the streets.

But oddly enough, i think hyunjin's own commentary works with this story in a beautiful way.

From the poem: "The Angel With Many Feet"
"Not everyone in high places is an angel."
Maybe heaven and hell aren't places at all.
Could they be states of being?
You're all angels with invisible wings.

And then the other poem that i find so extremely lovely for this fic is Magnolia Post Script by Bok Hyo-geun which he evidently spoke about in an Elle Korea interview. this also absolutely fits this story.

Angels who are people, blossoms that fall.
The dark in balance with the light.

i mean... this is so Twin Peaks.
